We know, if we want to make food, we need food materials, right? So in the same way to make a system, we need components, the basic parts to build a system either physically or virtually.

In the same way again, to make GIS we need GIS components to get work properly.

Hardware: To make GIS operatable we need hardware in the form of computers(user-ended desktop or large servers), engaged in standalone or network configurations.

Software: Gis is basically a software used to store, analyze and display information geographically. So key software components it needs is :

  1. Tools to collect input data, run desirable queries and provide great visualization.
  2. Database Management System.
  3. Graphical User Interface.

Data: Data is the most obvious component of GIS. There can be numerous types of data that gets configured within the system. Geographical data(Spatial Data) can be used along with other resourceful data to get desired results. The data can be collected from different resources like Government, Hospitals, Industries, Educational sectors, etc.

People: People are the most valued component in GIS because it is the people who create, build, manage and grow the system in order to overcome real-world problems and comes up with great solutions.GIS users range from technical specialists who design and maintain the system to those who use it to help them perform their everyday work.

Methods: A well-designed and well-operated system have to make in order to provide near to appropriate results.A successful GIS operates according to a well-designed plan and business rules, which are the models and operating practices unique to each organization.
